Work sucks. Psychology can help make it a little bit less shit.

I'm Mel, a therapist who helps people navigate what happens when all the usual human stuff... anxiety, stress, low mood, difficult relationships, neurodiversity, confidence and burnout... comes to work with us.

Because work is a huge part of our lives, and sometimes understanding the psychology of what's happening can make it a whole lot easier to navigate.

Maybe you can't switch off after work.

Maybe your boss is doing your head in.

Maybe you're anxious, overwhelmed, burnt out or wondering why everyone else seems to cope with work better than you do.

Or maybe work is actually pretty good and you want to keep it that way.

That's the stuff we talk about here.

Work shouldn’t consume your whole life… but right now, it kind of does.

Does this sound familiar?

  • You replay conversations from work long after you've gone home.

  • You're constantly second-guessing yourself or worrying you're not good enough.

  • A difficult boss or coworker can completely change how you feel about your job.

  • You're exhausted at the end of the day and don't understand why work takes so much out of you.

  • Your brain doesn't always seem to work the way workplaces expect it to.

  • Or maybe nothing is terribly wrong... you just want work to take up less space in your head and your life.

Here’s the thing: work doesn’t happen separately from the rest of your psychology.

You bring your anxiety to work. Your mood. Your relationships. Your ADHD or autistic brain. Your perfectionism. Your confidence. Your history. Your need to belong. Your tendency to overthink things. All the ordinary human stuff.

And then work adds bosses, deadlines, feedback, competing demands, office politics, performance reviews, Craig from Business Development and the fact that you need the money.

No wonder it can get complicated.

That's what The Worker Bee Therapist is about. Understanding the psychology of what happens to us at work, and finding practical ways to make work a little less shit.

What’s really happening at work

Sometimes the problem really is the workplace.

Sometimes it's your anxiety telling you that one slightly weird email means you're about to get fired.

Sometimes it's ADHD making a boring task feel almost physically impossible to start.

Sometimes you're burnt out. Sometimes you're lonely. Sometimes you hate conflict. Sometimes you care far too much about whether your boss likes you.

And sometimes the workplace itself is dysfunctional and no amount of breathing exercises is going to fix that.

Different problems need different psychology.

That's why you'll find practical, evidence-based psychology here about anxiety, mood, stress, relationships, neurodiversity, confidence, motivation, burnout and all the other human stuff that follows us through the office door.

Not because work should become your whole life. Quite the opposite.

The goal is to understand what's happening, work out what might actually help, and hopefully leave a bit more of work at work.

How I can help you

Practical psychology for real work problems.

I create practical, psychologically informed resources for the stuff that happens when being human and having a job collide.

Anxiety. Stress. Difficult relationships. Neurodiversity. Burnout. Confidence. Motivation. Overthinking. Not being able to switch off. And all the other things that can make work harder than it needs to be.

The idea isn't to teach you how to tolerate a shitty workplace.

It's to help you understand what's happening, work out what you can change, and give you practical psychological tools for the things you can't.
